ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ਸਗਲੇ ਦੂਖ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੨॥

jis simarat sukh hoi sagale dookh jaahi ||2||

Remembering Him in meditation, happiness comes, and all sorrows and pains simply vanish. ||2||

Pauree:

ਅਕੁਲ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਪਾਰੀਐ ॥

akul nira(n)jan purakh agam apaareeai ||

He is without relatives, immaculate, all-powerful, unapproachable and infinite.

ਸਚੋ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਚੁ ਨਿਹਾਰੀਐ ॥

sacho sachaa sach sach nihaareeai ||

Truly, the True Lord is seen to be the Truest of the True.

ਕੂੜੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਧਾਰੀਐ ॥

kooR na jaapai kichh teree dhaareeai ||

Nothing established by You appears to be false.

ਸਭਸੈ ਦੇ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਜੇਤ ਉਪਾਰੀਐ ॥

sabhasai de daataar jet upaareeai ||

The Great Giver gives sustenance to all those He has created.

ਇਕਤੁ ਸੂਤਿ ਪਰੋਇ ਜੋਤਿ ਸੰਜਾਰੀਐ ॥

ikat soot paroi jot sa(n)jaareeai ||

He has strung all on only one thread; He has infused His Light in them.

ਹੁਕਮੇ ਭਵਜਲ ਮੰਝਿ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਤਾਰੀਐ ॥

hukame bhavajal ma(n)jh hukame taareeai ||

By His Will, some drown in the terrifying world-ocean, and by His Will, some are carried across.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਸੋਇ ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਗੁ ਮਥਾਰੀਐ ॥

prabh jeeu tudh dhiaae soi jis bhaag mathaareeai ||

O Dear Lord, he alone meditates on You, upon whose forehead such blessed destiny is inscribed.

ਤੇਰੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਲਖੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਹਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀਐ ॥੧॥

teree gat mit lakhee na jaai hau tudh balihaareeai ||1||

Your condition and state cannot be known; I am a sacrifice to You. ||1||

Salok, Fifth Mehl:

ਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਤੁਸਹਿ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਅਚਿੰਤੁ ਵਸਹਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

jaa too(n) tusahi miharavaan achi(n)t vasahi man maahi ||

When You are pleased, O Merciful Lord, you automatically come to dwell within my mind.

ਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਤੁਸਹਿ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥

jaa too(n) tusahi miharavaan nau nidh ghar mahi paahi ||

When You are pleased, O Merciful Lord, I find the nine treasures within the home of my own self.

ਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਤੁਸਹਿ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥

jaa too(n) tusahi miharavaan taa gur kaa ma(n)tr kamaahi ||

When You are pleased, O Merciful Lord, I act according to the Guru's Instructions.

ਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਤੁਸਹਿ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਤਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥

jaa too(n) tusahi miharavaan taa naanak sach samaahi ||1||

When You are pleased, O Merciful Lord, then Nanak is absorbed in the True One. ||1||

Fifth Mehl:

ਕਿਤੀ ਬੈਹਨੑਿ ਬੈਹਣੇ ਮੁਚੁ ਵਜਾਇਨਿ ਵਜ ॥

kitee baihanhi baihane much vajaain vaj ||

Many sit on thrones, to the sounds of musical instruments.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਣੁ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਰਹੀਆ ਲਜ ॥੨॥

naanak sache naam vin kisai na raheeaa laj ||2||

O Nanak, without the True Name, no one's honor is safe. ||2||

Pauree:

ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਇਨੑਿ ਬੇਦ ਕਤੇਬਾ ਸਣੁ ਖੜੇ ॥

tudh dhiaainhi bed katebaa san khaRe ||

The followers of the Vedas, the Bible and the Koran, standing at Your Door, meditate on You.

ਗਣਤੀ ਗਣੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਤੇਰੈ ਦਰਿ ਪੜੇ ॥

ganatee ganee na jaai terai dar paRe ||

Uncounted are those who fall at Your Door.

ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਇਨੑਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾਸਣਾ ॥

brahame tudh dhiaainhi i(n)dr i(n)draasanaa ||

Brahma meditates on You, as does Indra on his throne.

ਸੰਕਰ ਬਿਸਨ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਭਣਾ ॥

sa(n)kar bisan avataar har jas mukh bhanaa ||

Shiva and Vishnu, and their incarnations, chant the Lord's Praise with their mouths,

ਪੀਰ ਪਿਕਾਬਰ ਸੇਖ ਮਸਾਇਕ ਅਉਲੀਏ ॥

peer pikaabar sekh masaaik auleee ||

as do the Pirs, the spiritual teachers, the prophets and the Shaykhs, the silent sages and the seers.

ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਮਉਲੀਏ ॥

ot pot nira(n)kaar ghat ghat mauleee ||

Through and through, the Formless Lord is woven into each and every heart.

ਕੂੜਹੁ ਕਰੇ ਵਿਣਾਸੁ ਧਰਮੇ ਤਗੀਐ ॥

kooRahu kare vinaas dharame tageeai ||

One is destroyed through falsehood; through righteousness, one prospers.

ਜਿਤੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਗੀਐ ॥੨॥

jit jit laaihi aap tit tit lageeai ||2||

Whatever the Lord links him to, to that he is linked. ||2||

ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੫ ॥

Salok, Fifth Mehl:

ਚੰਗਿਆਈਁ ਆਲਕੁ ਕਰੇ ਬੁਰਿਆਈਁ ਹੋਇ ਸੇਰੁ ॥

cha(n)giaaee(n) aalak kare buriaaee(n) hoi ser ||

He is reluctant to do good, but eager to practice evil.

ਨਾਨਕ ਅਜੁ ਕਲਿ ਆਵਸੀ ਗਾਫਲ ਫਾਹੀ ਪੇਰੁ ॥੧॥

naanak aj kal aavasee gaaphal phaahee per ||1||

O Nanak, today or tomorrow, the feet of the careless fool shall fall into the trap. ||1||

Fifth Mehl:

ਕਿਤੀਆ ਕੁਢੰਗ ਗੁਝਾ ਥੀਐ ਨ ਹਿਤੁ ॥

kiteeaa kudha(n)g gujhaa theeai na hit ||

No matter how evil my ways are, still, Your Love for me is not concealed.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤੈ ਸਹਿ ਢਕਿਆ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਚਾ ਮਿਤੁ ॥੨॥

naanak tai sahi dhakiaa man mahi sachaa mit ||2||

Nanak: You, O Lord, conceal my short-comings and dwell within my mind; You are my true friend. ||2||

ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pauree:

ਹਉ ਮਾਗਉ ਤੁਝੈ ਦਇਆਲ ਕਰਿ ਦਾਸਾ ਗੋਲਿਆ ॥

hau maagau tujhai daiaal kar daasaa goliaa ||

I beg of You, O Merciful Lord: please, make me the slave of Your slaves.

ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਈ ਰਾਜੁ ਜੀਵਾ ਬੋਲਿਆ ॥

nau nidh paaee raaj jeevaa boliaa ||

I obtain the nine treasures and royalty; chanting Your Name, I live.

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਦਾਸਾ ਘਰਿ ਘਣਾ ॥

a(n)mrit naam nidhaan daasaa ghar ghanaa ||

The great ambrosial treasure, the Nectar of the Naam, is in the home of the Lord's slaves.

ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ਸ੍ਰਵਣੀ ਜਸੁ ਸੁਣਾ ॥

tin kai sa(n)g nihaal sravanee jas sunaa ||

In their company, I am in ecstasy, listening to Your Praises with my ears.

ਕਮਾਵਾ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

kamaavaa tin kee kaar sareer pavit hoi ||

Serving them, my body is purified.

ਪਖਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਪੀਸਿ ਬਿਗਸਾ ਪੈਰ ਧੋਇ ॥

pakhaa paanee pees bigasaa pair dhoi ||

I wave the fans over them, and carry water for them; I grind the corn for them, and washing their feet, I am over-joyed.

ਆਪਹੁ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੀਐ ॥

aapahu kachhoo na hoi prabh nadar nihaaleeai ||

By myself, I can do nothing; O God, bless me with Your Glance of Grace.

ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਦਿਚੈ ਥਾਉ ਸੰਤ ਧਰਮ ਸਾਲੀਐ ॥੩॥

mohi niragun dichai thaau sa(n)t dharam saaleeai ||3||

I am worthless - please, bless me with a seat in the place of worship of the Saints. ||3||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੫ ॥

Salok, Fifth Mehl:

ਸਾਜਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨ ਕੀ ਹੋਇ ਰਹਾ ਸਦ ਧੂਰਿ ॥

saajan tere charan kee hoi rahaa sad dhoor ||

O Friend, I pray that I may remain forever the dust of Your Feet.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਹਾਰੀਆ ਪੇਖਉ ਸਦਾ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥੧॥

naanak saran tuhaareeaa pekhau sadaa hajoor ||1||

Nanak has entered Your Sanctuary, and beholds You ever-present. ||1||

Fifth Mehl:

ਪਤਿਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਅਸੰਖ ਹੋਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗ ॥

patit puneet asa(n)kh hohi har charanee man laag ||

Countless sinners become pure, by fixing their minds on the Feet of the Lord.

ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗ ॥੨॥

athasath teerath naam prabh jis naanak masatak bhaag ||2||

The Name of God is the sixty-eight holy places of pilgrimage, O Nanak, for one who has such destiny written upon his forehead. ||2||

ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pauree:

ਨਿਤ ਜਪੀਐ ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ਨਾਉ ਪਰਵਦਿਗਾਰ ਦਾ ॥

nit japeeai saas giraas naau paravadigaar daa ||

With every breath and morsel of food, chant the Name of the Lord, the Cherisher.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਰੇ ਰਹੰਮ ਤਿਸੁ ਨ ਵਿਸਾਰਦਾ ॥

jis no kare raha(n)m tis na visaaradaa ||

The Lord does not forget one upon whom He has bestowed His Grace.

ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਵਣਹਾਰ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਮਾਰਦਾ ॥

aap upaavanahaar aape hee maaradaa ||

He Himself is the Creator, and He Himself destroys.
