ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀਜੈ ਨਾਮ ਦਾਨੁ ਰਾਖਉ ਹੀਐ ਪਰੋਇ ॥੫੫॥
naanak deejai naam daan raakhau heeai paroi ||55||
Nanak: grant me the Gift of Your Name, Lord, that I may string it and keep it within my heart. ||55||

ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਮਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਪਿਤਾ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰਾ ॥
guradev maataa guradev pitaa guradev suaamee paramesuraa ||
The Divine Guru is our mother, the Divine Guru is our father; the Divine Guru is our Lord and Master, the Transcendent Lord.
ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਸਖਾ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਬੰਧਿਪ ਸਹੋਦਰਾ ॥
guradev sakhaa agiaan bha(n)jan guradev ba(n)dhip sahodaraa ||
The Divine Guru is my companion, the Destroyer of ignorance; the Divine Guru is my relative and brother.
ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਪਦੇਸੈ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਮੰਤੁ ਨਿਰੋਧਰਾ ॥
guradev daataa har naam upadesai guradev ma(n)t nirodharaa ||
The Divine Guru is the Giver, the Teacher of the Lord's Name. The Divine Guru is the Mantra which never fails.
ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਪਾਰਸ ਪਰਸ ਪਰਾ ॥
guradev saa(n)t sat budh moorat guradev paaras paras paraa ||
The Divine Guru is the image of peace, truth and wisdom. The Divine Guru is the Philosopher's Stone - touching it, one is transformed.
ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਤੀਰਥੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਰੋਵਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਮਜਨੁ ਅਪਰੰਪਰਾ ॥
guradev teerath a(n)mrit sarovar gur giaan majan apara(n)paraa ||
The Divine Guru is the sacred shrine of pilgrimage, and the pool of divine nectar; bathing in the Guru's wisdom, one experiences the Infinite.
ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਭਿ ਪਾਪ ਹਰਤਾ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਪਤਿਤ ਪਵਿਤ ਕਰਾ ॥
guradev karataa sabh paap harataa guradev patit pavit karaa ||
The Divine Guru is the Creator, and the Destroyer of all sins; the Divine Guru is the Purifier of sinners.
ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਮੰਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਉਧਰਾ ॥
guradev aad jugaad jug jug guradev ma(n)t har jap udharaa ||
The Divine Guru existed in the very beginning, throughout the ages, in each and every age. The Divine Guru is the Mantra of the Lord's Name; chanting it, one is saved.
ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਲਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹਮ ਮੂੜ ਪਾਪੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਗਿ ਤਰਾ ॥
guradev sa(n)gat prabh mel kar kirapaa ham mooR paapee jit lag taraa ||
O God, please be merciful to me, that I may be with the Divine Guru; I am a foolish sinner, but holding onto Him, I will be carried across.
ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਮਸਕਰਾ ॥੧॥

The Divine Guru is the True Guru, the Supreme Lord God, the Transcendent Lord; Nanak bows in humble reverence to the Lord, the Divine Guru. ||1||

I bow to the Primal Guru.
ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਗੁਰਏ ਨਮਹ ॥
jugaad gurae namah ||
I bow to the Guru of the ages.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਏ ਨਮਹ ॥

I bow to the True Guru.

ਸਿਮਰਉ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਉ ॥
simarau simar simar sukh paavau ||
Meditate, meditate, meditate in remembrance of Him, and find peace.
ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਤਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਮਿਟਾਵਉ ॥
kal kales tan maahi mitaavau ||
Worry and anguish shall be dispelled from your body.
ਸਿਮਰਉ ਜਾਸੁ ਬਿਸੁੰਭਰ ਏਕੈ ॥
simarau jaas bisu(n)bhar ekai ||
Remember in praise the One who pervades the whole Universe.
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਅਗਨਤ ਅਨੇਕੈ ॥
naam japat aganat anekai ||
His Name is chanted by countless people, in so many ways.
ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸੁਧਾਖੵਰ ॥
bed puraan si(n)mrit sudhaakhyr ||
The Vedas, the Puraanas and the Simritees, the purest of utterances,
ਕੀਨੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਇਕ ਆਖੵਰ ॥
keene raam naam ik aakhyr ||
were created from the One Word of the Name of the Lord.
ਕਿਨਕਾ ਏਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਜੀਅ ਬਸਾਵੈ ॥
kinakaa ek jis jee basaavai ||
That one, in whose soul the One Lord dwells
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਗਨੀ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
taa kee mahimaa ganee na aavai ||
the praises of his glory cannot be recounted.
ਕਾਂਖੀ ਏਕੈ ਦਰਸ ਤੁਹਾਰੋ ॥
kaa(n)khee ekai daras tuhaaro ||
Those who yearn only for the blessing of Your Darshan
ਨਾਨਕ ਉਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਉਧਾਰੋ ॥੧॥
naanak un sa(n)g mohi udhaaro ||1||
- Nanak: save me along with them! ||1||
ਸੁਖਮਨੀ ਸੁਖ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
sukhamanee sukh a(n)mrit prabh naam ||
Sukhmani: Peace of Mind, the Nectar of the Name of God.
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bhagat janaa kai man bisraam || rahaau ||
The minds of the devotees abide in a joyful peace. ||Pause||
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਗਰਭਿ ਨ ਬਸੈ ॥
prabh kai simaran garabh na basai ||
Remembering God, one does not have to enter into the womb again.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਜਮੁ ਨਸੈ ॥
prabh kai simaran dookh jam nasai ||
Remembering God, the pain of death is dispelled.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਕਾਲੁ ਪਰਹਰੈ ॥
prabh kai simaran kaal paraharai ||
Remembering God, death is eliminated.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਦੁਸਮਨੁ ਟਰੈ ॥
prabh kai simaran dusaman tarai ||
Remembering God, one's enemies are repelled.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਕਛੁ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
prabh simarat kachh bighan na laagai ||
Remembering God, no obstacles are met.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗੈ ॥
prabh kai simaran anadin jaagai ||
Remembering God, one remains awake and aware, night and day.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਭਉ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ॥
prabh kai simaran bhau na biaapai ||
Remembering God, one is not touched by fear.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਸੰਤਾਪੈ ॥
prabh kai simaran dukh na sa(n)taapai ||
Remembering God, one does not suffer sorrow.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
prabh kaa simaran saadh kai sa(n)g ||
The meditative remembrance of God is in the Company of the Holy.
ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੨॥
sarab nidhaan naanak har ra(n)g ||2||
All treasures, O Nanak, are in the Love of the Lord. ||2||
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ॥
prabh kai simaran ridh sidh nau nidh ||
In the remembrance of God are wealth, miraculous spiritual powers and the nine treasures.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਤਤੁ ਬੁਧਿ ॥

In the remembrance of God are knowledge, meditation and the essence of wisdom.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਜਪ ਤਪ ਪੂਜਾ ॥
prabh kai simaran jap tap poojaa ||
In the remembrance of God are chanting, intense meditation and devotional worship.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਦੂਜਾ ॥
prabh kai simaran binasai doojaa ||
In the remembrance of God, duality is removed.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਇਸਨਾਨੀ ॥
prabh kai simaran teerath isanaanee ||
In the remembrance of God are purifying baths at sacred shrines of pilgrimage.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਾਨੀ ॥
prabh kai simaran daragah maanee ||
In the remembrance of God, one attains honor in the Court of the Lord.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਭਲਾ ॥
prabh kai simaran hoi s bhalaa ||
In the remembrance of God, one becomes good.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਸੁਫਲ ਫਲਾ ॥
prabh kai simaran suphal phalaa ||
In the remembrance of God, one flowers in fruition.
ਸੇ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਆਪਿ ਸਿਮਰਾਏ ॥
se simarahi jin aap simaraae ||
They alone remember Him in meditation, whom He inspires to meditate.
