ਸਭਨੀ ਘਟੀ ਸਹੁ ਵਸੈ ਸਹ ਬਿਨੁ ਘਟੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
sabhanee ghatee sahu vasai sah bin ghat na koi ||
God the Cosmic Husband dwells within all hearts; without Him, there is no heart at all.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਜਿਨੑਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧੯॥
naanak te sohaaganee jinhaa guramukh paragat hoi ||19||
O Nanak, the Gurmukhs are the happy, virtuous soul-brides; the Lord is revealed to them. ||19||
ਜਉ ਤਉ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਖੇਲਣ ਕਾ ਚਾਉ ॥
jau tau prem khelan kaa chaau ||
If you desire to play this game of love with Me,
ਸਿਰੁ ਧਰਿ ਤਲੀ ਗਲੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਉ ॥
sir dhar talee galee meree aau ||
then step onto My Path with your head in hand.
ਇਤੁ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪੈਰੁ ਧਰੀਜੈ ॥
it maarag pair dhareejai ||
When you place your feet on this Path,
ਸਿਰੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਕਾਣਿ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੨੦॥
sir deejai kaan na keejai ||20||
give Me your head, and do not pay any attention to public opinion. ||20||
ਨਾਲਿ ਕਿਰਾੜਾ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਕੂੜੈ ਕੂੜੀ ਪਾਇ ॥
naal kiraaRaa dosatee kooRai kooRee paai ||
False is friendship with the false and greedy. False is its foundation.
ਮਰਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ਮੂਲਿਆ ਆਵੈ ਕਿਤੈ ਥਾਇ ॥੨੧॥
maran na jaapai mooliaa aavai kitai thaai ||21||
O Moollah, no one knows where death shall strike. ||21||
ਗਿਆਨ ਹੀਣੰ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਪੂਜਾ ॥
giaan heena(n) agiaan poojaa ||
Without spiritual wisdom, the people worship ignorance.
ਅੰਧ ਵਰਤਾਵਾ ਭਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੨੨॥
a(n)dh varataavaa bhaau doojaa ||22||
They grope in the darkness, in the love of duality. ||22||
ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਰਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
gur bin giaan dharam bin dhiaan ||
Without the Guru, there is no spiritual wisdom; without Dharma, there is no meditation.
ਸਚ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਖੀ ਮੂਲੋ ਨ ਬਾਕੀ ॥੨੩॥
sach bin saakhee moolo na baakee ||23||
Without Truth, there is no credit; without capital, there is no balance. ||23||
ਮਾਣੂ ਘਲੈ ਉਠੀ ਚਲੈ ॥
maanoo ghalai uthee chalai ||
The mortals are sent into the world; then, they arise and depart.
ਸਾਦੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਇਵੇਹੀ ਗਲੈ ॥੨੪॥
saad naahee ivehee galai ||24||
There is no joy in this. ||24||
ਰਾਮੁ ਝੁਰੈ ਦਲ ਮੇਲਵੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਲੁ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ॥
raam jhurai dal melavai a(n)tar bal adhikaar ||
Raam Chand, sad at heart, assembled his army and forces.
ਬੰਤਰ ਕੀ ਸੈਨਾ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਜੁਝੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
ba(n)tar kee sainaa seveeai man tan jujh apaar ||
The army of monkeys was at his service; his mind and body became eager for war.
ਸੀਤਾ ਲੈ ਗਇਆ ਦਹਸਿਰੋ ਲਛਮਣੁ ਮੂਓ ਸਰਾਪਿ ॥
seetaa lai gaiaa dahasiro lachhaman mooo saraap ||
Raawan captured his wife Sita, and Lachhman was cursed to die.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਿ ॥੨੫॥
naanak karataa karanahaar kar vekhai thaap uthaap ||25||
O Nanak, the Creator Lord is the Doer of all; He watches over all, and destroys what He has created. ||25||
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਝੂਰੈ ਰਾਮਚੰਦੁ ਸੀਤਾ ਲਛਮਣ ਜੋਗੁ ॥
man mahi jhoorai raamacha(n)d seetaa lachhaman jog ||
In his mind, Raam Chand mourned for Sita and Lachhman.
ਹਣਵੰਤਰੁ ਆਰਾਧਿਆ ਆਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ॥
hanava(n)tar aaraadhiaa aaiaa kar sa(n)jog ||
Then, he remembered Hanuman the monkey-god, who came to him.
ਭੂਲਾ ਦੈਤੁ ਨ ਸਮਝਈ ਤਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀਏ ਕਾਮ ॥
bhoolaa dait na samajhaee tin prabh keee kaam ||
The misguided demon did not understand that God is the Doer of deeds.
ਨਾਨਕ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ਸੋ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਮਿਟਈ ਰਾਮ ॥੨੬॥
naanak veparavaahu so kirat na mitaee raam ||26||
O Nanak, the actions of the Self-existent Lord cannot be erased. ||26||
ਲਾਹੌਰ ਸਹਰੁ ਜਹਰੁ ਕਹਰੁ ਸਵਾ ਪਹਰੁ ॥੨੭॥
laahaur sahar jahar kahar savaa pahar ||27||
The city of Lahore suffered terrible destruction for four hours. ||27||

ਲਾਹੌਰ ਸਹਰੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਰੁ ਸਿਫਤੀ ਦਾ ਘਰੁ ॥੨੮॥
laahaur sahar a(n)mrit sar siphatee daa ghar ||28||
The city of Lahore is a pool of ambrosial nectar, the home of praise. ||28||

ਉਦੋਸਾਹੈ ਕਿਆ ਨੀਸਾਨੀ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਅੰਨੀ ॥
udosaahai kiaa neesaanee tot na aavai a(n)nee ||
What are the signs of a prosperous person? His stores of food never run out.
ਉਦੋਸੀਅ ਘਰੇ ਹੀ ਵੁਠੀ ਕੁੜਿਈਁ ਰੰਨੀ ਧੰਮੀ ॥
udosee ghare hee vuthee kuRiee(n) ra(n)nee dha(n)mee ||
Prosperity dwells in his home, with the sounds of girls and women.
ਸਤੀ ਰੰਨੀ ਘਰੇ ਸਿਆਪਾ ਰੋਵਨਿ ਕੂੜੀ ਕੰਮੀ ॥
satee ra(n)nee ghare siaapaa rovan kooRee ka(n)mee ||
All the women of his home shout and cry over useless things.
ਜੋ ਲੇਵੈ ਸੋ ਦੇਵੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਖਟੇ ਦੰਮ ਸਹੰਮੀ ॥੨੯॥
jo levai so devai naahee khate da(n)m saha(n)mee ||29||
Whatever he takes, he does not give back. Seeking to earn more and more, he is troubled and uneasy. ||29||
ਪਬਰ ਤੂੰ ਹਰੀਆਵਲਾ ਕਵਲਾ ਕੰਚਨ ਵੰਨਿ ॥
pabar too(n) hareeaavalaa kavalaa ka(n)chan va(n)n ||
O lotus, your leaves were green, and your blossoms were gold.
ਕੈ ਦੋਖੜੈ ਸੜਿਓਹਿ ਕਾਲੀ ਹੋਈਆ ਦੇਹੁਰੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੈ ਤਨਿ ਭੰਗੁ ॥
kai dokhaRai saRiohi kaalee hoeeaa dehuree naanak mai tan bha(n)g ||
What pain has burnt you, and made your body black? O Nanak, my body is battered.
ਜਾਣਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾ ਲਹਾਂ ਜੈ ਸੇਤੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
jaanaa paanee naa lahaa(n) jai setee meraa sa(n)g ||
I have not received that water which I love.
ਜਿਤੁ ਡਿਠੈ ਤਨੁ ਪਰਫੁੜੈ ਚੜੈ ਚਵਗਣਿ ਵੰਨੁ ॥੩੦॥
jit dithai tan paraphuRai chaRai chavagan va(n)n ||30||
Seeing it, my body blossomed forth, and I was blessed with a deep and beautiful color. ||30||
ਰਜਿ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵਿਆ ਪਹੁਚਿ ਨ ਚਲਿਆ ਕੋਇ ॥
raj na koee jeeviaa pahuch na chaliaa koi ||
No one lives long enough to accomplish all he wishes.
ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜੀਵੈ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਰਤੀ ਹੀ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
giaanee jeevai sadaa sadaa suratee hee pat hoi ||
Only the spiritually wise live forever; they are honored for their intuitive awareness.
ਸਰਫੈ ਸਰਫੈ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਏਵੈ ਗਈ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥
saraphai saraphai sadaa sadaa evai gaee vihaai ||
Bit by bit, life passes away, even though the mortal tries to hold it back.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਖੀਐ ਵਿਣੁ ਪੁਛਿਆ ਹੀ ਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੩੧॥
naanak kis no aakheeai vin puchhiaa hee lai jaai ||31||
O Nanak, unto whom should we complain? Death takes one's life away without anyone's consent. ||31||
ਦੋਸੁ ਨ ਦੇਅਹੁ ਰਾਇ ਨੋ ਮਤਿ ਚਲੈ ਜਾਂ ਬੁਢਾ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
dos na deahu raai no mat chalai jaa(n) budhaa hovai ||
Do not blame the Sovereign Lord; when someone grows old, his intellect leaves him.
ਗਲਾਂ ਕਰੇ ਘਣੇਰੀਆ ਤਾਂ ਅੰਨੑੇ ਪਵਣਾ ਖਾਤੀ ਟੋਵੈ ॥੩੨॥
galaa(n) kare ghanereeaa taa(n) a(n)nhe pavanaa khaatee tovai ||32||
The blind man talks and babbles, and then falls into the ditch. ||32||
ਪੂਰੇ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਘਟਿ ਵਧਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
poore kaa keeaa sabh kichh pooraa ghat vadh kichh naahee ||
All that the Perfect Lord does is perfect; there is not too little, or too much.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਐਸਾ ਜਾਣੈ ਪੂਰੇ ਮਾਂਹਿ ਸਮਾਂਹੀ ॥੩੩॥
naanak guramukh aisaa jaanai poore maa(n)hi samaa(n)hee ||33||
O Nanak, knowing this as Gurmukh, the mortal merges into the Perfect Lord God. ||33||
