ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਸਭ ਭਵਿ ਥਕੀ ਕਿਨਿ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥

jug chaare sabh bhav thakee kin keemat hoee ||

All have grown weary of wandering throughout the four ages, but none know the Lord's worth.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਵਿਖਾਲਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥

satigur ek vikhaaliaa man tan sukh hoee ||

The True Guru has shown me the One Lord, and my mind and body are at peace.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੭॥

guramukh sadaa salaaheeai karataa kare s hoee ||7||

The Gurmukh praises the Lord forever; that alone happens, which the Creator Lord does. ||7||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਹਲਾ ੨ ॥

Salok, Second Mehl:

ਜਿਨਾ ਭਉ ਤਿਨੑ ਨਾਹਿ ਭਉ ਮੁਚੁ ਭਉ ਨਿਭਵਿਆਹ ॥

jinaa bhau tinh naahi bhau much bhau nibhaviaah ||

Those who have the Fear of God, have no other fears; those who do not have the Fear of God, are very afraid.

ਨਾਨਕ ਏਹੁ ਪਟੰਤਰਾ ਤਿਤੁ ਦੀਬਾਣਿ ਗਇਆਹ ॥੧॥

naanak ehu pata(n)taraa tit deebaan gaiaah ||1||

O Nanak, this mystery is revealed at the Court of the Lord. ||1||

mah 2 ||

Second Mehl:

ਤੁਰਦੇ ਕਉ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਉਡਤੇ ਕਉ ਉਡਤਾ ॥

turade kau turadaa milai udate kau udataa ||

That which flows, mingles with that which flows; that which blows, mingles with that which blows.

ਜੀਵਤੇ ਕਉ ਜੀਵਤਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਮੂਏ ਕਉ ਮੂਆ ॥

jeevate kau jeevataa milai mooe kau mooaa ||

The living mingle with the living, and the dead mingle with the dead.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਜਿਨਿ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕੀਆ ॥੨॥

naanak so saalaaheeai jin kaaran keeaa ||2||

O Nanak, praise the One who created the creation. ||2||

ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pauree:

ਸਚੁ ਧਿਆਇਨਿ ਸੇ ਸਚੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥

sach dhiaain se sache gur sabad veechaaree ||

Those who meditate on the True Lord are true; they contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੀ ॥

haumai maar man niramalaa har naam ur dhaaree ||

They subdue their ego, purify their minds, and enshrine the Lord's Name within their hearts.

ਕੋਠੇ ਮੰਡਪ ਮਾੜੀਆ ਲਗਿ ਪਏ ਗਾਵਾਰੀ ॥

kothe ma(n)dap maaReeaa lag pae gaavaaree ||

The fools are attached to their homes, mansions and balconies.

ਜਿਨੑਿ ਕੀਏ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਬਾਰੀ ॥

jinhi keee tisahi na jaananee manamukh gubaaree ||

The self-willed manmukhs are caught in darkness; they do not know the One who created them.

ਜਿਸੁ ਬੁਝਾਇਹਿ ਸੋ ਬੁਝਸੀ ਸਚਿਆ ਕਿਆ ਜੰਤ ਵਿਚਾਰੀ ॥੮॥

jis bujhaaihi so bujhasee sachiaa kiaa ja(n)t vichaaree ||8||

He alone understands, whom the True Lord causes to understand; what can the helpless creatures do? ||8||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੩ ॥

Salok, Third Mehl:

ਕਾਮਣਿ ਤਉ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਾ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਕੰਤੁ ਮਨਾਇ ॥

kaaman tau seegaar kar jaa pahilaa(n) ka(n)t manaai ||

O bride, decorate yourself, after you surrender and accept your Husband Lord.

ਮਤੁ ਸੇਜੈ ਕੰਤੁ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਏਵੈ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਇ ॥

mat sejai ka(n)t na aavaee evai birathaa jaai ||

Otherwise, your Husband Lord will not come to your bed, and your ornaments will be useless.

ਕਾਮਣਿ ਪਿਰ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਤਉ ਬਣਿਆ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥

kaaman pir man maaniaa tau baniaa seegaar ||

O bride, your decorations will adorn you, only when your Husband Lord's Mind is pleased.

ਕੀਆ ਤਉ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਹੈ ਜਾ ਸਹੁ ਧਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

keeaa tau paravaan hai jaa sahu dhare piaar ||

Your ornaments will be acceptable and approved, only when your Husband Lord loves you.

ਭਉ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਤਬੋਲ ਰਸੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਭਾਉ ਕਰੇਇ ॥

bhau seegaar tabol ras bhojan bhaau karei ||

So make the Fear of God your ornaments, joy your betel nuts to chew, and love your food.

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਉਪੇ ਕੰਤ ਕਉ ਤਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਭੋਗੁ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੧॥

tan man saupe ka(n)t kau tau naanak bhog karei ||1||

Surrender your body and mind to your Husband Lord, and then, O Nanak, He will enjoy you. ||1||

mah 3 ||

Third Mehl:

ਕਾਜਲ ਫੂਲ ਤੰਬੋਲ ਰਸੁ ਲੇ ਧਨ ਕੀਆ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥

kaajal phool ta(n)bol ras le dhan keeaa seegaar ||

The wife takes flowers, and fragrance of betel, and decorates herself.

ਸੇਜੈ ਕੰਤੁ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਏਵੈ ਭਇਆ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥੨॥

sejai ka(n)t na aaio evai bhaiaa vikaar ||2||

But her Husband Lord does not come to her bed, and so these efforts are useless. ||2||

mah 3 ||

Third Mehl:

ਧਨ ਪਿਰੁ ਏਹਿ ਨ ਆਖੀਅਨਿ ਬਹਨਿ ਇਕਠੇ ਹੋਇ ॥

dhan pir ehi na aakheean bahan ikathe hoi ||

They are not said to be husband and wife, who merely sit together.

ਏਕ ਜੋਤਿ ਦੁਇ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਧਨ ਪਿਰੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥

ek jot dui mooratee dhan pir kaheeai soi ||3||

They alone are called husband and wife, who have one light in two bodies. ||3||

ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pauree:

ਭੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

bhai bin bhagat na hovaee naam na lagai piaar ||

Without the Fear of God, there is no devotional worship, and no love for the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਭਉ ਊਪਜੈ ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਰੰਗੁ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥

satigur miliai bhau oopajai bhai bhaai ra(n)g savaar ||

Meeting with the True Guru, the Fear of God wells up, and one is embellished with the Fear and the Love of God.

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਰਤਾ ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਹਉਮੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਮਾਰਿ ॥

tan man rataa ra(n)g siu haumai trisanaa maar ||

When the body and mind are imbued with the Lord's Love, egotism and desire are conquered and subdued.

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਅਤਿ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥

man tan niramal at sohanaa bhetiaa krisan muraar ||

The mind and body become immaculately pure and very beautiful, when one meets the Lord, the Destroyer of ego.

ਭਉ ਭਾਉ ਸਭੁ ਤਿਸ ਦਾ ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥੯॥

bhau bhaau sabh tis daa so sach varatai sa(n)saar ||9||

Fear and love all belong to Him; He is the True Lord, permeating and pervading the Universe. ||9||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੧ ॥

Salok, First Mehl:

ਵਾਹੁ ਖਸਮ ਤੂ ਵਾਹੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਚਿ ਰਚਨਾ ਹਮ ਕੀਏ ॥

vaahu khasam too vaahu jin rach rachanaa ham keee ||

Waaho! Waaho! You are wonderful and great, O Lord and Master; You created the creation, and made us.

ਸਾਗਰ ਲਹਰਿ ਸਮੁੰਦ ਸਰ ਵੇਲਿ ਵਰਸ ਵਰਾਹੁ ॥

saagar lahar samu(n)d sar vel varas varaahu ||

You made the waters, waves, oceans, pools, plants, clouds and mountains.

ਆਪਿ ਖੜੋਵਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਿ ਆਪੀਣੈ ਆਪਾਹੁ ॥

aap khaRovahi aap kar aapeenai aapaahu ||

You Yourself stand in the midst of what You Yourself created.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਥਾਇ ਪਵੈ ਉਨਮਨਿ ਤਤੁ ਕਮਾਹੁ ॥

guramukh sevaa thaai pavai unaman tat kamaahu ||

The selfless service of the Gurmukhs is approved; in celestial peace, they live the essence of reality.

ਮਸਕਤਿ ਲਹਹੁ ਮਜੂਰੀਆ ਮੰਗਿ ਮੰਗਿ ਖਸਮ ਦਰਾਹੁ ॥

masakat lahahu majooreeaa ma(n)g ma(n)g khasam daraahu ||

They receive the wages of their labor, begging at the Door of their Lord and Master.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪੁਰ ਦਰ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹ ਤਉ ਦਰਿ ਊਣਾ ਨਾਹਿ ਕੋ ਸਚਾ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ॥੧॥

naanak pur dar veparavaah tau dar oonaa naahi ko sachaa veparavaahu ||1||

O Nanak, the Court of the Lord is overflowing and carefree; O my True Carefree Lord, no one returns empty-handed from Your Court. ||1||

ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

mahalaa 1 ||

First Mehl:

ਉਜਲ ਮੋਤੀ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਰਤਨਾ ਨਾਲਿ ਜੁੜੰਨਿ ॥

ujal motee sohane ratanaa naal juRa(n)n ||

The teeth are like brilliant, beautiful pearls, and the eyes are like sparkling jewels.

ਤਿਨ ਜਰੁ ਵੈਰੀ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿ ਬੁਢੇ ਥੀਇ ਮਰੰਨਿ ॥੨॥

tin jar vairee naanakaa j budhe theei mara(n)n ||2||

Old age is their enemy, O Nanak; when they grow old, they waste away. ||2||
