ਗਾਵੈ ਗਾਵਣਹਾਰੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੋ ॥
gaavai gaavanahaar sabad suhaavano ||
The singer who sings the Lord's Praises is adorned with the Word of the Shabad.
ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਮੰਨਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁੰਨ ਦਾਨ ਦਇਆ ਮਤੇ ॥
saalaahi saache ma(n)n satigur pu(n)n daan daiaa mate ||
Worship the True Lord, and believe in the True Guru; this brings the merit of making donations to charity, kindness and compassion.
ਪਿਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਨਾਵੈ ਬੇਣੀ ਤ ਸੰਗਮੁ ਸਤ ਸਤੇ ॥
pir sa(n)g bhaavai sahaj naavai benee ta sa(n)gam sat sate ||
The soul-bride who loves to be with her Husband Lord bathes at the true Triveni of the soul, which she regards as the sacred place where the Ganges, Jamuna and Saraswaati Rivers converge.
ਆਰਾਧਿ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਿਤ ਦੇਇ ਚੜੈ ਸਵਾਇਆ ॥
aaraadh eka(n)kaar saachaa nit dei chaRai savaaiaa ||
Worship and adore the One Creator, the True Lord, who constantly gives, whose gifts continually increase.
ਗਤਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਮੀਤਾ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਨਦਰਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
gat sa(n)g meetaa sa(n)tasa(n)gat kar nadar mel milaaiaa ||3||
Salvation is attained by associating with the Society of the Saints, O friend; granting His Grace, God unites us in His Union. ||3||
ਕਹਣੁ ਕਹੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ਕੇਵਡੁ ਆਖੀਐ ॥
kahan kahai sabh koi kevad aakheeai ||
Everyone speaks and talks; how great should I say He is?
ਹਉ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਨੀਚੁ ਅਜਾਣੁ ਸਮਝਾ ਸਾਖੀਐ ॥
hau moorakh neech ajaan samajhaa saakheeai ||
I am foolish, lowly and ignorant; it is only through the Guru's Teachings that I understand.
ਸਚੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਾਖੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭਾਖੀ ਤਿਤੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
sach gur kee saakhee a(n)mrit bhaakhee tit man maaniaa meraa ||
True are the Teachings of the Guru. His Words are Ambrosial Nectar; my mind is pleased and appeased by them.
ਕੂਚੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਲਾਦੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
kooch karahi aavahi bikh laade sabad sachai gur meraa ||
Loaded down with corruption and sin, people depart, and then come back again; the True Shabad is found through my Guru.
ਆਖਣਿ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਭਗਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰੀ ਭਰਿਪੁਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸੋਈ ॥
aakhan tot na bhagat bha(n)daaree bharipur rahiaa soee ||
There is no end to the treasure of devotion; the Lord is pervading everywhere.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਂਜੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਈ ॥੪॥੧॥
naanak saach kahai bena(n)tee man maa(n)jai sach soee ||4||1||
Nanak utters this true prayer; one who purifies his mind is True. ||4||1||

Dhanaasaree, First Mehl:
ਜੀਵਾ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਇ ਮਨਿ ਆਨੰਦੁ ਹੈ ਜੀਉ ॥
jeevaa terai naai man aana(n)d hai jeeu ||
I live by Your Name; my mind is in ecstasy, Lord.
ਸਾਚੋ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਉ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ਹੈ ਜੀਉ ॥
saacho saachaa naau gun govi(n)d hai jeeu ||
True is the Name of the True Lord. Glorious are the Praises of the Lord of the Universe.
ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਿਰਜੀ ਤਿਨਿ ਗੋਈ ॥
gur giaan apaaraa sirajanahaaraa jin sirajee tin goee ||
Infinite is the spiritual wisdom imparted by the Guru. The Creator Lord who created, shall also destroy.
ਪਰਵਾਣਾ ਆਇਆ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਪਠਾਇਆ ਫੇਰਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
paravaanaa aaiaa hukam pathaaiaa pher na sakai koee ||
The call of death is sent out by the Lord's Command; no one can challenge it.
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਲੇਖੈ ਆਪੇ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
aape kar vekhai sir sir lekhai aape surat bujhaaee ||
He Himself creates, and watches; His written command is above each and every head. He Himself imparts understanding and awareness.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਜੀਵਾ ਸਚੀ ਨਾਈ ॥੧॥
naanak saahib agam agochar jeevaa sachee naaee ||1||
O Nanak, the Lord Master is inaccessible and unfathomable; I live by His True Name. ||1||
ਤੁਮ ਸਰਿ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ਆਇਆ ਜਾਇਸੀ ਜੀਉ ॥
tum sar avar na koi aaiaa jaaisee jeeu ||
No one can compare to You, Lord; all come and go.
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਬੇੜੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਸੀ ਜੀਉ ॥
hukamee hoi nibeR bharam chukaaisee jeeu ||
By Your Command, the account is settled, and doubt is dispelled.
ਗੁਰੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ਅਕਥੁ ਕਹਾਏ ਸਚ ਮਹਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਸਮਾਣਾ ॥
gur bharam chukaae akath kahaae sach mahi saach samaanaa ||
The Guru dispels doubt, and makes us speak the Unspoken Speech; the true ones are absorbed into Truth.
ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਆਪਿ ਸਮਾਏ ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਾ ॥
aap upaae aap samaae hukamee hukam pachhaanaa ||
He Himself creates, and He Himself destroys; I accept the Command of the Commander Lord.
ਸਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਈ ਤੂ ਮਨਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਖਾਈ ॥
sachee vadiaaee gur te paaee too man a(n)t sakhaaee ||
True greatness comes from the Guru; You alone are the mind's companion in the end.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਮਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੨॥
naanak saahib avar na doojaa naam terai vadiaaee ||2||
O Nanak, there is no other than the Lord and Master; greatness comes from Your Name. ||2||
ਤੂ ਸਚਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੁ ਅਲਖ ਸਿਰੰਦਿਆ ਜੀਉ ॥
too sachaa sirajanahaar alakh sira(n)diaa jeeu ||
You are the True Creator Lord, the unknowable Maker.
ਏਕੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਦੁਇ ਰਾਹ ਵਾਦ ਵਧੰਦਿਆ ਜੀਉ ॥
ek saahib dui raah vaad vadha(n)diaa jeeu ||
There is only the One Lord and Master, but there are two paths, by which conflict increases.
ਦੁਇ ਰਾਹ ਚਲਾਏ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਬਾਏ ਜਨਮਿ ਮੁਆ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
dui raah chalaae hukam sabaae janam muaa sa(n)saaraa ||
All follow these two paths, by the Hukam of the Lord's Command; the world is born, only to die.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਬੇਲੀ ਬਿਖੁ ਲਾਦੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਭਾਰਾ ॥
naam binaa naahee ko belee bikh laadee sir bhaaraa ||
Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the mortal has no friend at all; he carries loads of sin on his head.
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਆਇਆ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
hukamee aaiaa hukam na boojhai hukam savaaranahaaraa ||
By the Hukam of the Lord's Command, he comes, but he does not understand this Hukam; the Lord's Hukam is the Embellisher.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਿਞਾਪੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
naanak saahib sabad sinjaapai saachaa sirajanahaaraa ||3||
O Nanak, through the Shabad, the Word of the Lord and Master, the True Creator Lord is realized. ||3||
ਭਗਤ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਦਰਵਾਰਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ਜੀਉ ॥
bhagat sohahi daravaar sabad suhaaiaa jeeu ||
Your devotees look beautiful in Your Court, embellished with the Shabad.
ਬੋਲਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣਿ ਰਸਨ ਰਸਾਇਆ ਜੀਉ ॥
bolahi a(n)mrit baan rasan rasaaiaa jeeu ||
They chant the Ambrosial Word of His Bani, savoring it with their tongues.
ਰਸਨ ਰਸਾਏ ਨਾਮਿ ਤਿਸਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਿਕਾਣੇ ॥
rasan rasaae naam tisaae gur kai sabad vikaane ||
Savoring it with their tongues, they thirst for the Naam; they are a sacrifice to the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਪਾਰਸਿ ਪਰਸਿਐ ਪਾਰਸੁ ਹੋਏ ਜਾ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣੇ ॥
paaras parasiai paaras hoe jaa terai man bhaane ||
Touching the philosopher's stone, they become the philosopher's stone, which transforms lead into gold; O Lord, they become pleasing to your mind.
ਅਮਰਾ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
amaraa pad paaiaa aap gavaaiaa viralaa giaan veechaaree ||
They attain the immortal status and eradicate their self-conceit; how rare is that person, who contemplates spiritual wisdom.
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤ ਸੋਹਨਿ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ॥੪॥
naanak bhagat sohan dar saachai saache ke vaapaaree ||4||
O Nanak, the devotees look beautiful in the Court of the True Lord; they are dealers in the Truth. ||4||
ਭੂਖ ਪਿਆਸੋ ਆਥਿ ਕਿਉ ਦਰਿ ਜਾਇਸਾ ਜੀਉ ॥
bhookh piaaso aath kiu dar jaaisaa jeeu ||
I am hungry and thirsty for wealth; how will I be able to go to the Lord's Court?
