ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤੈ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
manamukh mugadh har naam na chetai birathaa janam gavaaiaa ||
The foolish self-willed manmukh does not remember the Lord's Name; he wastes away his life in vain.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਤਾ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਏ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
satigur bhete taa naau paae haumai mohu chukaaiaa ||3||
But when he meets the True Guru, then he obtains the Name; he sheds egotism and emotional attachment. ||3||
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
har jan saache saach kamaavahi gur kai sabad veechaaree ||
The Lord's humble servants are True - they practice Truth, and reflect upon the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਲਏ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਾਚੁ ਰਖਿਆ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
aape mel lae prabh saachai saach rakhiaa ur dhaaree ||
The True Lord God unites them with Himself, and they keep the True Lord enshrined in their hearts.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਵਹੁ ਗਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਏਹਾ ਰਾਸਿ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੧॥
naanak naavahu gat mat paaee ehaa raas hamaaree ||4||1||
O Nanak, through the Name, I have obtained salvation and understanding; this alone is my wealth. ||4||1||

Sorat'h, Third Mehl:
ਭਗਤਿ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਭਗਤਨ ਕਉ ਦੀਆ ਨਾਉ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
bhagat khajaanaa bhagatan kau deeaa naau har dhan sach soi ||
The True Lord has blessed His devotees with the treasure of devotional worship, and the wealth of the Lord's Name.
ਅਖੁਟੁ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਕਦੇ ਨਿਖੁਟੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
akhut naam dhan kade nikhutai naahee kinai na keemat hoi ||
The wealth of the Naam, shall never be exhausted; no one can estimate its worth.
ਨਾਮ ਧਨਿ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
naam dhan mukh ujale hoe har paaiaa sach soi ||1||
With the wealth of the Naam, their faces are radiant, and they attain the True Lord. ||1||
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
man mere gurasabadee har paaiaa jaai ||
O my mind, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the Lord is found.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਜਗੁ ਭੁਲਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bin sabadai jag bhuladaa phiradaa daragah milai sajaai || rahaau ||
Without the Shabad, the world wanders around, and receives its punishment in the Court of the Lord. ||Pause||
ਇਸੁ ਦੇਹੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪੰਚ ਚੋਰ ਵਸਹਿ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥
is dehee a(n)dar pa(n)ch chor vasahi kaam krodh lobh mohu aha(n)kaaraa ||
Within this body dwell the five thieves: sexual desire, anger, greed, emotional attachment and egotism.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਲੂਟਹਿ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਸੁਣੈ ਪੂਕਾਰਾ ॥
a(n)mrit lootahi manamukh nahee boojhahi koi na sunai pookaaraa ||
They plunder the Nectar, but the self-willed manmukh does not realize it; no one hears his complaint.
ਅੰਧਾ ਜਗਤੁ ਅੰਧੁ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
a(n)dhaa jagat a(n)dh varataaraa baajh guroo gubaaraa ||2||
The world is blind, and its dealings are blind as well; without the Guru, there is only pitch darkness. ||2||
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵਿਗੁਤੇ ਕਿਹੁ ਚਲੈ ਨ ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
haumai meraa kar kar vigute kihu chalai na chaladiaa naal ||
Indulging in egotism and possessiveness, they are ruined; when they depart, nothing goes along with them.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥
guramukh hovai s naam dhiaavai sadaa har naam samaal ||
But one who becomes Gurmukh meditates on the Naam, and ever contemplates the Lord's Name.
ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਨਦਰੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ॥੩॥
sachee baanee har gun gaavai nadaree nadar nihaal ||3||
Through the True Word of Gurbani, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord; blessed with the Lord's Glance of Grace, he is enraptured. ||3||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਅਮਰੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਬਾਦਿਸਾਹਾ ॥
satigur giaan sadaa ghat chaanan amar sir baadisaahaa ||
The spiritual wisdom of the True Guru is a steady light within the heart. The Lord's decree is over the heads of even kings.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਚੁ ਲਾਹਾ ॥
anadin bhagat karahi din raatee raam naam sach laahaa ||
Night and day, the Lord's devotees worship Him; night and day, they gather in the true profit of the Lord's Name.
ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਹਾ ॥੪॥੨॥
naanak raam naam nisataaraa sabad rate har paahaa ||4||2||
O Nanak, through the Lord's Name, one is emancipated; attuned to the Shabad, he finds the Lord. ||4||2||

Sorat'h, Third Mehl:
ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਏ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
daasan daas hovai taa har paae vichahu aap gavaaee ||
If one becomes the slave of the Lord's slaves, then he finds the Lord, and eradicates ego from within.
ਭਗਤਾ ਕਾ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਹਰਿ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਹੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈ ॥
bhagataa kaa kaaraj har ana(n)d hai anadin har gun gaaee ||
The Lord of bliss is his object of devotion; night and day, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਇਕ ਰੰਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥
sabad rate sadaa ik ra(n)gee har siu rahe samaaee ||1||
Attuned to the Word of the Shabad, the Lord's devotees remain ever as one, absorbed in the Lord. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਾਚੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥
har jeeu saachee nadar tumaaree ||
O Dear Lord, Your Glance of Grace is True.
ਆਪਣਿਆ ਦਾਸਾ ਨੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਪੈਜ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aapaniaa daasaa no kripaa kar piaare raakhahu paij hamaaree || rahaau ||
Show mercy to Your slave, O Beloved Lord, and preserve my honor. ||Pause||
ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਹਉ ਜੀਵਾ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਭਉ ਭਾਗਾ ॥
sabad salaahee sadaa hau jeevaa guramatee bhau bhaagaa ||
Continually praising the Word of the Shabad, I live; under Guru's Instruction, my fear has been dispelled.
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਅਤਿ ਸੁਆਲਿਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
meraa prabh saachaa at suaaliu gur seviaa chit laagaa ||
My True Lord God is so beautiful! Serving the Guru, my consciousness is focused on Him.
ਸਾਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚੀ ਸਚੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗਾ ॥੨॥
saachaa sabad sachee sach baanee so jan anadin jaagaa ||2||
One who chants the True Word of the Shabad, and the Truest of the True, the Word of His Bani, remains wakeful, day and night. ||2||
ਮਹਾ ਗੰਭੀਰੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
mahaa ga(n)bheer sadaa sukhadaataa tis kaa a(n)t na paaiaa ||
He is so very deep and profound, the Giver of eternal peace; no one can find His limit.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਨੀ ਅਚਿੰਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥
poore gur kee sevaa keenee achi(n)t har ma(n)n vasaaiaa ||
Serving the Perfect Guru, one becomes carefree, enshrining the Lord within the mind.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
man tan niramal sadaa sukh a(n)tar vichahu bharam chukaaiaa ||3||
The mind and body become immaculately pure, and a lasting peace fills the heart; doubt is eradicated from within. ||3||
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਸਦਾ ਪੰਥੁ ਵਿਖੜਾ ਕੋ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
har kaa maarag sadaa pa(n)th vikhaRaa ko paae gur veechaaraa ||
The Way of the Lord is always such a difficult path; only a few find it, contemplating the Guru.
ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਬਦੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਤਜੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
har kai ra(n)g raataa sabade maataa haumai taje vikaaraa ||
Imbued with the Lord's Love, and intoxicated with the Shabad, he renounces ego and corruption.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤਾ ਇਕ ਰੰਗੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੩॥
naanak naam rataa ik ra(n)gee sabad savaaranahaaraa ||4||3||
O Nanak, imbued with the Naam, and the Love of the One Lord, he is embellished with the Word of the Shabad. ||4||3||
