ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਭੀਤਰਿ ਪੰਚ ਗੁਪਤ ਮਨਿ ਵਾਸੇ ॥
bheetar pa(n)ch gupat man vaase ||
The five evil passions dwell hidden within the mind.
ਥਿਰੁ ਨ ਰਹਹਿ ਜੈਸੇ ਭਵਹਿ ਉਦਾਸੇ ॥੧॥
thir na rahahi jaise bhavahi udaase ||1||
They do not remain still, but move around like wanderers. ||1||
ਮਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਦਇਆਲ ਸੇਤੀ ਥਿਰੁ ਨ ਰਹੈ ॥
man meraa daiaal setee thir na rahai ||
My soul does not stay held by the Merciful Lord.
ਲੋਭੀ ਕਪਟੀ ਪਾਪੀ ਪਾਖੰਡੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਅਧਿਕ ਲਗੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
lobhee kapatee paapee paakha(n)dee maaiaa adhik lagai ||1|| rahaau ||
It is greedy, deceitful, sinful and hypocritical, and totally attached to Maya. ||1||Pause||
ਫੂਲ ਮਾਲਾ ਗਲਿ ਪਹਿਰਉਗੀ ਹਾਰੋ ॥
phool maalaa gal pahiraugee haaro ||
I will decorate my neck with garlands of flowers.
ਮਿਲੈਗਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਤਬ ਕਰਉਗੀ ਸੀਗਾਰੋ ॥੨॥
milaigaa preetam tab karaugee seegaaro ||2||
When I meet my Beloved, then I will put on my decorations. ||2||
ਪੰਚ ਸਖੀ ਹਮ ਏਕੁ ਭਤਾਰੋ ॥
pa(n)ch sakhee ham ek bhataaro ||
I have five companions and one Spouse.
ਪੇਡਿ ਲਗੀ ਹੈ ਜੀਅੜਾ ਚਾਲਣਹਾਰੋ ॥੩॥
ped lagee hai jeeaRaa chaalanahaaro ||3||
It is ordained from the very beginning, that the soul must ultimately depart. ||3||
ਪੰਚ ਸਖੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਰੁਦਨੁ ਕਰੇਹਾ ॥
pa(n)ch sakhee mil rudan karehaa ||
The five companions will lament together.
ਸਾਹੁ ਪਜੂਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਲੇਖਾ ਦੇਹਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੩੪॥
saahu pajootaa pranavat naanak lekhaa dehaa ||4||1||34||
When the soul is trapped, prays Nanak, it is called to account. ||4||1||34||

Aasaa, Sixth House, First Mehl:
ਮਨੁ ਮੋਤੀ ਜੇ ਗਹਣਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਪਉਣੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੂਤ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
man motee je gahanaa hovai paun hovai soot dhaaree ||
If the pearl of the mind is strung like a jewel on the thread of the breath,
ਖਿਮਾ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਤਨਿ ਪਹਿਰੈ ਰਾਵੈ ਲਾਲ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥੧॥
khimaa seegaar kaaman tan pahirai raavai laal piaaree ||1||
and the soul-bride adorns her body with compassion, then the Beloved Lord will enjoy His lovely bride. ||1||
ਲਾਲ ਬਹੁ ਗੁਣਿ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਮੋਹੀ ॥
laal bahu gun kaaman mohee ||
O my Love, I am fascinated by Your many glories;
ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਹੋਹਿ ਨ ਅਵਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tere gun hohi na avaree ||1|| rahaau ||
Your Glorious Virtues are not found in any other. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਾਰੁ ਕੰਠਿ ਲੇ ਪਹਿਰੈ ਦਾਮੋਦਰੁ ਦੰਤੁ ਲੇਈ ॥
har har haar ka(n)th le pahirai daamodar da(n)t leee ||
If the bride wears the garland of the Lord's Name, Har, Har, around her neck, and if she uses the toothbrush of the Lord;
ਕਰ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਕੰਗਨ ਪਹਿਰੈ ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਧਰੇਈ ॥੨॥
kar kar karataa ka(n)gan pahirai in bidh chit dhareee ||2||
and if she fashions and wears the bracelet of the Creator Lord around her wrist, then she shall hold her consciousness steady. ||2||
ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨੁ ਕਰ ਮੁੰਦਰੀ ਪਹਿਰੈ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਪਟੁ ਲੇਈ ॥
madhusoodan kar mu(n)daree pahirai paramesar pat leee ||
She should make the Lord, the Slayer of demons, her ring, and take the Transcendent Lord as her silken clothes.
ਧੀਰਜੁ ਧੜੀ ਬੰਧਾਵੈ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਸ੍ਰੀਰੰਗੁ ਸੁਰਮਾ ਦੇਈ ॥੩॥
dheeraj dhaRee ba(n)dhaavai kaaman sreera(n)g suramaa deee ||3||
The soul-bride should weave patience into the braids of her hair, and apply the lotion of the Lord, the Great Lover. ||3||
ਮਨ ਮੰਦਰਿ ਜੇ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਜਾਲੇ ਕਾਇਆ ਸੇਜ ਕਰੇਈ ॥
man ma(n)dar je deepak jaale kaaiaa sej kareee ||
If she lights the lamp in the mansion of her mind, and makes her body the bed of the Lord,
ਗਿਆਨ ਰਾਉ ਜਬ ਸੇਜੈ ਆਵੈ ਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਭੋਗੁ ਕਰੇਈ ॥੪॥੧॥੩੫॥
giaan raau jab sejai aavai ta naanak bhog kareee ||4||1||35||
then, when the King of spiritual wisdom comes to her bed, He shall take her, and enjoy her. ||4||1||35||

Aasaa, First Mehl:
ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਇਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ਭਾਈ ॥
keetaa hovai kare karaaiaa tis kiaa kaheeai bhaaee ||
The created being acts as he is made to act; what can be said to him, O Siblings of Destiny?
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਸੋ ਕਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਿਆ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥੧॥
jo kichh karanaa so kar rahiaa keete kiaa chaturaaee ||1||
Whatever the Lord is to do, He is doing; what cleverness could be used to affect Him? ||1||
ਤੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਭਲਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
teraa hukam bhalaa tudh bhaavai ||
The Order of Your Will is so sweet, O Lord; this is pleasing to You.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਾਈ ਸਾਚੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
naanak taa kau milai vadaaee saache naam samaavai ||1|| rahaau ||
O Nanak, he alone is honored with greatness, who is absorbed in the True Name. ||1||Pause||
ਕਿਰਤੁ ਪਇਆ ਪਰਵਾਣਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
kirat paiaa paravaanaa likhiaa baahuR hukam na hoee ||
The deeds are done according to pre-ordained destiny; no one can turn back this Order.
ਜੈਸਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤੈਸਾ ਪੜਿਆ ਮੇਟਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਈ ॥੨॥
jaisaa likhiaa taisaa paRiaa met na sakai koee ||2||
As it is written, so it comes to pass; no one can erase it. ||2||
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਦਰਗਹ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਬੋਲੈ ਨਾਉ ਪਵੈ ਬਾਜਾਰੀ ॥
je ko daragah bahutaa bolai naau pavai baajaaree ||
He who talks on and on in the Lord's Court is known as a joker.
ਸਤਰੰਜ ਬਾਜੀ ਪਕੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਚੀ ਆਵੈ ਸਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
satara(n)j baajee pakai naahee kachee aavai saaree ||3||
He is not successful in the game of chess, and his chessmen do not reach their goal. ||3||
ਨਾ ਕੋ ਪੜਿਆ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਬੀਨਾ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਮੰਦਾ ॥
naa ko paRiaa pa(n)dit beenaa naa ko moorakh ma(n)daa ||
By himself, no one is literate, learned or wise; no one is ignorant or evil.
ਬੰਦੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਕਹੀਐ ਬੰਦਾ ॥੪॥੨॥੩੬॥
ba(n)dee a(n)dar siphat karaae taa kau kaheeai ba(n)daa ||4||2||36||
When, as a slave, one praises the Lord, only then is he known as a human being. ||4||2||36||

Aasaa, First Mehl:
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਨੈ ਮਹਿ ਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਖਿੰਥਾ ਖਿਮਾ ਹਢਾਵਉ ॥
gur kaa sabad manai mahi mu(n)draa khi(n)thaa khimaa hadhaavau ||
Let the Word of the Guru's Shabad be the ear-rings in your mind, and wear the patched coat of tolerance.
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਭਲਾ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਉ ਸਹਜ ਜੋਗ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਵਉ ॥੧॥
jo kichh karai bhalaa kar maanau sahaj jog nidh paavau ||1||
Whatever the Lord does, look upon that as good; thus you shall obtain the treasure of Sehj Yoga. ||1||
