ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਘਟ ਮਹਿ ਦੂਜੀ ਆਨ ॥

jab lag ghat mahi doojee aan ||

Know that as long as you place your hopes in others,

ਤਉ ਲਉ ਮਹਲਿ ਨ ਲਾਭੈ ਜਾਨ ॥

tau lau mahal na laabhai jaan ||

you shall not find the Mansion of the Lord's Presence.

ਰਮਤ ਰਾਮ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੋ ਰੰਗੁ ॥

ramat raam siu laago ra(n)g ||

When you embrace love for the Lord,

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਤਬ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਅੰਗ ॥੮॥੧॥

kahi kabeer tab niramal a(n)g ||8||1||

says Kabeer, then, you shall become pure in your very fiber. ||8||1||

ਰਾਗੁ ਗਉੜੀ ਚੇਤੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਮਦੇਉ ਜੀਉ ਕੀ ॥

devaa paahan taareeale ||

God makes even stones float.

ਰਾਮ ਕਹਤ ਜਨ ਕਸ ਨ ਤਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

raam kahat jan kas na tare ||1|| rahaau ||

So why shouldn't Your humble slave also float across, chanting Your Name, O Lord? ||1||Pause||

ਤਾਰੀਲੇ ਗਨਿਕਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਰੂਪ ਕੁਬਿਜਾ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਅਜਾਮਲੁ ਤਾਰੀਅਲੇ ॥

taareele ganikaa bin roop kubijaa biaadh ajaamal taareeale ||

You saved the prostitute, and the ugly hunch-back; You helped the hunter and Ajaamal swim across as well.

ਚਰਨ ਬਧਿਕ ਜਨ ਤੇਊ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਭਏ ॥

charan badhik jan teoo mukat bhae ||

The hunter who shot Krishna in the foot - even he was liberated.

ਹਉ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਿਨ ਰਾਮ ਕਹੇ ॥੧॥

hau bal bal jin raam kahe ||1||

I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to those who chant the Lord's Name. ||1||

ਦਾਸੀ ਸੁਤ ਜਨੁ ਬਿਦਰੁ ਸੁਦਾਮਾ ਉਗ੍ਰਸੈਨ ਕਉ ਰਾਜ ਦੀਏ ॥

daasee sut jan bidar sudaamaa ugrasain kau raaj deee ||

You saved Bidur, the son of the slave-girl, and Sudama; You restored Ugrasain to his throne.

ਜਪ ਹੀਨ ਤਪ ਹੀਨ ਕੁਲ ਹੀਨ ਕ੍ਰਮ ਹੀਨ ਨਾਮੇ ਕੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੇਊ ਤਰੇ ॥੨॥੧॥

jap heen tap heen kul heen kram heen naame ke suaamee teoo tare ||2||1||

Without meditation, without penance, without a good family, without good deeds, Naam Dayv's Lord and Master saved them all. ||2||1||

ਮੇਰੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪੋਚ ਸੋਚ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ॥

The company I keep is wretched and low, and I am anxious day and night;

ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰਮੁ ਕੁਟਿਲਤਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਕੁਭਾਂਤੀ ॥੧॥

meraa karam kutilataa janam kubhaa(n)tee ||1||

my actions are crooked, and I am of lowly birth. ||1||

ਰਾਮ ਗੁਸਈਆ ਜੀਅ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਨਾ ॥

raam gusaeeaa jee ke jeevanaa ||

O Lord, Master of the earth, Life of the soul,

ਮੋਹਿ ਨ ਬਿਸਾਰਹੁ ਮੈ ਜਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

mohi na bisaarahu mai jan teraa ||1|| rahaau ||

please do not forget me! I am Your humble servant. ||1||Pause||

ਮੇਰੀ ਹਰਹੁ ਬਿਪਤਿ ਜਨ ਕਰਹੁ ਸੁਭਾਈ ॥

meree harahu bipat jan karahu subhaaee ||

Take away my pains, and bless Your humble servant with Your Sublime Love.

ਚਰਣ ਨ ਛਾਡਉ ਸਰੀਰ ਕਲ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥

charan na chhaadau sareer kal jaaee ||2||

I shall not leave Your Feet, even though my body may perish. ||2||

ਕਹੁ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਪਰਉ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਾਭਾ ॥

kahu ravidaas parau teree saabhaa ||

Says Ravi Daas, I seek the protection of Your Sanctuary;

ਬੇਗਿ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਜਨ ਕਰਿ ਨ ਬਿਲਾਂਬਾ ॥੩॥੧॥

beg milahu jan kar na bilaa(n)baa ||3||1||

please, meet Your humble servant - do not delay! ||3||1||

ਬੇਗਮ ਪੁਰਾ ਸਹਰ ਕੋ ਨਾਉ ॥

begam puraa sahar ko naau ||

Baygumpura, 'the city without sorrow', is the name of the town.

ਦੂਖੁ ਅੰਦੋਹੁ ਨਹੀ ਤਿਹਿ ਠਾਉ ॥

dookh a(n)dohu nahee tihi thaau ||

There is no suffering or anxiety there.

ਨਾਂ ਤਸਵੀਸ ਖਿਰਾਜੁ ਨ ਮਾਲੁ ॥

naa(n) tasavees khiraaj na maal ||

There are no troubles or taxes on commodities there.

ਖਉਫੁ ਨ ਖਤਾ ਨ ਤਰਸੁ ਜਵਾਲੁ ॥੧॥

khauph na khataa na taras javaal ||1||

There is no fear, blemish or downfall there. ||1||

ਅਬ ਮੋਹਿ ਖੂਬ ਵਤਨ ਗਹ ਪਾਈ ॥

ab mohi khoob vatan gah paaee ||

Now, I have found this most excellent city.

ਊਹਾਂ ਖੈਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

oohaa(n) khair sadaa mere bhaaee ||1|| rahaau ||

There is lasting peace and safety there, O Siblings of Destiny. ||1||Pause||

ਕਾਇਮੁ ਦਾਇਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੀ ॥

kaaim daaim sadaa paatisaahee ||

God's Kingdom is steady, stable and eternal.

ਦੋਮ ਨ ਸੇਮ ਏਕ ਸੋ ਆਹੀ ॥

dom na sem ek so aahee ||

There is no second or third status; all are equal there.

ਆਬਾਦਾਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਮਸਹੂਰ ॥

aabaadaan sadaa masahoor ||

That city is populous and eternally famous.

ਊਹਾਂ ਗਨੀ ਬਸਹਿ ਮਾਮੂਰ ॥੨॥

oohaa(n) ganee basahi maamoor ||2||

Those who live there are wealthy and contented. ||2||

ਤਿਉ ਤਿਉ ਸੈਲ ਕਰਹਿ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ॥

tiu tiu sail karahi jiu bhaavai ||

They stroll about freely, just as they please.

ਮਹਰਮ ਮਹਲ ਨ ਕੋ ਅਟਕਾਵੈ ॥

maharam mahal na ko atakaavai ||

They know the Mansion of the Lord's Presence, and no one blocks their way.

ਕਹਿ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਖਲਾਸ ਚਮਾਰਾ ॥

kahi ravidaas khalaas chamaaraa ||

Says Ravi Daas, the emancipated shoe-maker:

ਜੋ ਹਮ ਸਹਰੀ ਸੁ ਮੀਤੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੩॥੨॥

jo ham saharee s meet hamaaraa ||3||2||

whoever is a citizen there, is a friend of mine. ||3||2||

ਘਟ ਅਵਘਟ ਡੂਗਰ ਘਣਾ ਇਕੁ ਨਿਰਗੁਣੁ ਬੈਲੁ ਹਮਾਰ ॥

ghat avaghat doogar ghanaa ik niragun bail hamaar ||

The path to God is very treacherous and mountainous, and all I have is this worthless ox.

ਰਮਈਏ ਸਿਉ ਇਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਰਾਖੁ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥੧॥

ramaeee siu ik benatee meree poo(n)jee raakh muraar ||1||

I offer this one prayer to the Lord, to preserve my capital. ||1||

ਕੋ ਬਨਜਾਰੋ ਰਾਮ ਕੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਟਾਂਡਾ ਲਾਦਿਆ ਜਾਇ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ko banajaaro raam ko meraa taa(n)daa laadiaa jaai re ||1|| rahaau ||

Is there any merchant of the Lord to join me? My cargo is loaded, and now I am leaving. ||1||Pause||
