ਅਪਨੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
apanee kripaa jis aap karei ||
He Himself grants His Grace;
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੇਇ ॥੨॥
naanak so sevak gur kee mat lei ||2||
O Nanak, that selfless servant lives the Guru's Teachings. ||2||
ਬੀਸ ਬਿਸਵੇ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
bees bisave gur kaa man maanai ||
One who obeys the Guru's Teachings one hundred per cent
ਸੋ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
so sevak paramesur kee gat jaanai ||
that selfless servant comes to know the state of the Transcendent Lord.
ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
so satigur jis ridai har naau ||
The True Guru's Heart is filled with the Name of the Lord.
ਅਨਿਕ ਬਾਰ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
anik baar gur kau bal jaau ||
So many times, I am a sacrifice to the Guru.
ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਜੀਅ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ॥
sarab nidhaan jee kaa daataa ||
He is the treasure of everything, the Giver of life.
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
aath pahar paarabraham ra(n)g raataa ||
Twenty-four hours a day, He is imbued with the Love of the Supreme Lord God.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਮਹਿ ਜਨੁ ਜਨ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ॥
braham mahi jan jan mahi paarabraham ||
The servant is in God, and God is in the servant.
ਏਕਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਨਹੀ ਕਛੁ ਭਰਮੁ ॥
ekahi aap nahee kachh bharam ||
He Himself is One - there is no doubt about this.
ਸਹਸ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਲਇਆ ਨ ਜਾਈਐ ॥
sahas siaanap laiaa na jaaeeai ||
By thousands of clever tricks, He is not found.
ਨਾਨਕ ਐਸਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੩॥
naanak aisaa gur badabhaagee paaeeai ||3||
O Nanak, such a Guru is obtained by the greatest good fortune. ||3||
ਸਫਲ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ॥
saphal darasan pekhat puneet ||
Blessed is His Darshan; receiving it, one is purified.
ਪਰਸਤ ਚਰਨ ਗਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੀਤਿ ॥
parasat charan gat niramal reet ||
Touching His Feet, one's conduct and lifestyle become pure.
ਭੇਟਤ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਮ ਗੁਨ ਰਵੇ ॥
bhetat sa(n)g raam gun rave ||
Abiding in His Company, one chants the Lord's Praise,
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਗਵੇ ॥
paarabraham kee daragah gave ||
and reaches the Court of the Supreme Lord God.
ਸੁਨਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਚਨ ਕਰਨ ਆਘਾਨੇ ॥
sun kar bachan karan aaghaane ||
Listening to His Teachings, one's ears are satisfied.
ਮਨਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਆਤਮ ਪਤੀਆਨੇ ॥
man sa(n)tokh aatam pateeaane ||
The mind is contented, and the soul is fulfilled.
ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਖੵਓ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ॥
pooraa gur akhyo jaa kaa ma(n)tr ||
The Guru is perfect; His Teachings are everlasting.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਪੇਖੈ ਹੋਇ ਸੰਤ ॥
a(n)mrit drisat pekhai hoi sa(n)t ||
Beholding His Ambrosial Glance, one becomes saintly.
ਗੁਣ ਬਿਅੰਤ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਇ ॥
gun bia(n)t keemat nahee paai ||
Endless are His virtuous qualities; His worth cannot be appraised.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੪॥
naanak jis bhaavai tis lae milaai ||4||
O Nanak, one who pleases Him is united with Him. ||4||
ਜਿਹਬਾ ਏਕ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਅਨੇਕ ॥
jihabaa ek usatat anek ||
The tongue is one, but His Praises are many.
ਸਤਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਪੂਰਨ ਬਿਬੇਕ ॥
sat purakh pooran bibek ||
The True Lord, of perfect perfection
ਕਾਹੂ ਬੋਲ ਨ ਪਹੁਚਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ॥
kaahoo bol na pahuchat praanee ||
- no speech can take the mortal to Him.
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਿਰਬਾਨੀ ॥
agam agochar prabh nirabaanee ||
God is Inaccessible, Incomprehensible, balanced in the state of Nirvaanaa.
ਨਿਰਾਹਾਰ ਨਿਰਵੈਰ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ॥
niraahaar niravair sukhadaaee ||
He is not sustained by food; He has no hatred or vengeance; He is the Giver of peace.
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
taa kee keemat kinai na paaee ||
No one can estimate His worth.
ਅਨਿਕ ਭਗਤ ਬੰਦਨ ਨਿਤ ਕਰਹਿ ॥
anik bhagat ba(n)dan nit karahi ||
Countless devotees continually bow in reverence to Him.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ॥
charan kamal hiradai simarahi ||
In their hearts, they meditate on His Lotus Feet.
ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਪਨੇ ॥
sad balihaaree satigur apane ||
Nanak is forever a sacrifice to the True Guru;
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਐਸਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਪਨੇ ॥੫॥
naanak jis prasaad aisaa prabh japane ||5||
by His Grace, he meditates on God. ||5||
ਇਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
ihu har ras paavai jan koi ||
Only a few obtain this ambrosial essence of the Lord's Name.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਅਮਰੁ ਸੋ ਹੋਇ ॥
a(n)mrit peevai amar so hoi ||
Drinking in this Nectar, one becomes immortal.
ਉਸੁ ਪੁਰਖ ਕਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਦੇ ਬਿਨਾਸ ॥
us purakh kaa naahee kade binaas ||
That person whose mind is illuminated
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੇ ਗੁਨਤਾਸ ॥
jaa kai man pragate gunataas ||
By the treasure of excellence, never dies.
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੇਇ ॥
aath pahar har kaa naam lei ||
Twenty-four hours a day, he takes the Name of the Lord.
ਸਚੁ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਦੇਇ ॥
sach upades sevak kau dei ||
The Lord gives true instruction to His servant.
ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਲੇਪੁ ॥
moh maaiaa kai sa(n)g na lep ||
He is not polluted by emotional attachment to Maya.
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੁ ॥
man mahi raakhai har har ek ||
In his mind, he cherishes the One Lord, Har, Har.
ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਦੀਪਕ ਪਰਗਾਸੇ ॥
a(n)dhakaar deepak paragaase ||
In the pitch darkness, a lamp shines forth.
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਦੁਖ ਤਹ ਤੇ ਨਾਸੇ ॥੬॥
naanak bharam moh dukh tah te naase ||6||
O Nanak, doubt, emotional attachment and pain are erased. ||6||
ਤਪਤਿ ਮਾਹਿ ਠਾਢਿ ਵਰਤਾਈ ॥
tapat maahi thaadh varataaee ||
In the burning heat, a soothing coolness prevails.
ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਦੁਖ ਨਾਠੇ ਭਾਈ ॥
anad bhaiaa dukh naathe bhaaee ||
Happiness ensues and pain departs, O Siblings of Destiny.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਕੇ ਮਿਟੇ ਅੰਦੇਸੇ ॥
janam maran ke mite a(n)dese ||
The fear of birth and death is dispelled,
ਸਾਧੂ ਕੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਉਪਦੇਸੇ ॥
saadhoo ke pooran upadese ||
by the perfect Teachings of the Holy Saint.
ਭਉ ਚੂਕਾ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਹੋਇ ਬਸੇ ॥
bhau chookaa nirabhau hoi base ||
Fear is lifted, and one abides in fearlessness.
ਸਗਲ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਖੈ ਨਸੇ ॥
sagal biaadh man te khai nase ||
All evils are dispelled from the mind.
ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਾ ਤਿਨਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
jis kaa saa tin kirapaa dhaaree ||
He takes us into His favor as His own.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥
saadhasa(n)g jap naam muraaree ||
In the Company of the Holy, chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਥਿਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਚੂਕੇ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਗਵਨ ॥
thit paaee chooke bhram gavan ||
Stability is attained; doubt and wandering cease,
ਸੁਨਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ॥੭॥
sun naanak har har jas sravan ||7||
O Nanak, listening with one's ears to the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har. ||7||
ਨਿਰਗੁਨੁ ਆਪਿ ਸਰਗੁਨੁ ਭੀ ਓਹੀ ॥
niragun aap saragun bhee ohee ||
He Himself is absolute and unrelated; He Himself is also involved and related.
ਕਲਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਗਲੀ ਮੋਹੀ ॥
kalaa dhaar jin sagalee mohee ||
Manifesting His power, He fascinates the entire world.
ਅਪਨੇ ਚਰਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਬਨਾਏ ॥
apane charit prabh aap banaae ||
God Himself sets His play in motion.
ਅਪੁਨੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਆਪੇ ਪਾਏ ॥
apunee keemat aape paae ||
Only He Himself can estimate His worth.
ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
har bin doojaa naahee koi ||
There is none, other than the Lord.
ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਇ ॥
sarab nira(n)tar eko soi ||
Permeating all, He is the One.
ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਰੂਪ ਰੰਗ ॥
ot pot raviaa roop ra(n)g ||
Through and through, He pervades in form and color.
ਭਏ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗ ॥
bhae pragaas saadh kai sa(n)g ||
He is revealed in the Company of the Holy.
