ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਏਕੈ ॥
karan karaavan sabh kichh ekai ||
The One Lord is the Creator of all things, the Cause of causes.
ਆਪੇ ਬੁਧਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਬਿਬੇਕੈ ॥
aape budh beechaar bibekai ||
He Himself is wisdom, contemplation and discerning understanding.
ਦੂਰਿ ਨ ਨੇਰੈ ਸਭ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਾ ॥
door na nerai sabh kai sa(n)gaa ||
He is not far away; He is near at hand, with all.
ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਣੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਾ ॥੮॥੧॥
sach saalaahan naanak har ra(n)gaa ||8||1||
So praise the True One, O Nanak, with love! ||8||1||

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
gur sevaa te naame laagaa ||
Serving the Guru, one is committed to the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗਾ ॥
tis kau miliaa jis masatak bhaagaa ||
It is received only by those who have such good destiny inscribed upon their foreheads.
ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਵਿਆ ਸੋਇ ॥
tis kai hiradai raviaa soi ||
The Lord dwells within their hearts.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
man tan seetal nihachal hoi ||1||
Their minds and bodies become peaceful and stable. ||1||
ਐਸਾ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
aisaa keeratan kar man mere ||
O my mind, sing such Praises of the Lord,
ਈਹਾ ਊਹਾ ਜੋ ਕਾਮਿ ਤੇਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
eehaa oohaa jo kaam terai ||1|| rahaau ||
which shall be of use to you here and hereafter. ||1||Pause||
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਭਉ ਅਪਦਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
jaas japat bhau apadaa jaai ||
Meditating on Him, fear and misfortune depart,
ਧਾਵਤ ਮਨੂਆ ਆਵੈ ਠਾਇ ॥
dhaavat manooaa aavai thaai ||
and the wandering mind is held steady.
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
jaas japat phir dookh na laagai ||
Meditating on Him, suffering shall never again overtake you.
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਇਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੨॥
jaas japat ih haumai bhaagai ||2||
Meditating on Him, this ego runs away. ||2||
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਵਸਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਪੰਚਾ ॥
jaas japat vas aavahi pa(n)chaa ||
Meditating on Him, the five passions are overcome.
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਰਿਦੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸੰਚਾ ॥
jaas japat ridai a(n)mrit sa(n)chaa ||
Meditating on Him, Ambrosial Nectar is collected in the heart.
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਇਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਬੁਝੈ ॥
jaas japat ih trisanaa bujhai ||
Meditating on Him, this desire is quenched.
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਸਿਝੈ ॥੩॥
jaas japat har daragah sijhai ||3||
Meditating on Him, one is approved in the Court of the Lord. ||3||
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਕੋਟਿ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਅਪਰਾਧ ॥
jaas japat kot mitahi aparaadh ||
Meditating on Him, millions of mistakes are erased.
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਹਰਿ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਸਾਧ ॥
jaas japat har hovahi saadh ||
Meditating on Him, one becomes Holy, blessed by the Lord.
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
jaas japat man seetal hovai ||
Meditating on Him, the mind is cooled and soothed.
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਮਲੁ ਸਗਲੀ ਖੋਵੈ ॥੪॥
jaas japat mal sagalee khovai ||4||
Meditating on Him, all filth is washed away. ||4||
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਰਤਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੈ ॥
jaas japat ratan har milai ||
Meditating on Him, the jewel of the Lord is obtained.
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਛੋਡੈ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਹਿਲੈ ॥
bahur na chhodai har sa(n)g hilai ||
One is reconciled with the Lord, and shall not abandon Him again.
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਕਈ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਵਾਸੁ ॥
jaas japat kaee baiku(n)th vaas ||
Meditating on Him, many acquire a home in the heavens.
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੫॥
jaas japat sukh sahaj nivaas ||5||
Meditating on Him, one abides in intuitive peace. ||5||
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਇਹ ਅਗਨਿ ਨ ਪੋਹਤ ॥
jaas japat ih agan na pohat ||
Meditating on Him, one is not affected by this fire.
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਇਹੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਜੋਹਤ ॥
jaas japat ihu kaal na johat ||
Meditating on Him, one is not under the gaze of Death.
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਮਾਥਾ ॥
jaas japat teraa niramal maathaa ||
Meditating on Him, your forehead shall be immaculate.
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਸਗਲਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਥਾ ॥੬॥
jaas japat sagalaa dukh laathaa ||6||
Meditating on Him, all pains are destroyed. ||6||
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਮੁਸਕਲੁ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਬਨੈ ॥
jaas japat musakal kachhoo na banai ||
Meditating on Him, no difficulties are encountered.
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਸੁਣਿ ਅਨਹਤ ਧੁਨੈ ॥
jaas japat sun anahat dhunai ||
Meditating on Him, one hears the unstruck melody.
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਇਹ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸੋਇ ॥
jaas japat ih niramal soi ||
Meditating on Him, one acquires this pure reputation.
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਕਮਲੁ ਸੀਧਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੭॥
jaas japat kamal seedhaa hoi ||7||
Meditating on Him, the heart-lotus is turned upright. ||7||
ਗੁਰਿ ਸੁਭ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਭ ਊਪਰਿ ਕਰੀ ॥
gur subh drisat sabh oopar karee ||
The Guru has bestowed His Glance of Grace upon all,
ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦੇ ਹਰੀ ॥
jis kai hiradai ma(n)tr de haree ||
within whose hearts the Lord has implanted His Mantra.
ਅਖੰਡ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਤਿਨਿ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਚੂਰਾ ॥
akha(n)d keeratan tin bhojan chooraa ||
The unbroken Kirtan of the Lord's Praises is their food and nourishment.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥੮॥੨॥
kahu naanak jis satigur pooraa ||8||2||
Says Nanak, they have the Perfect True Guru. ||8||2||
ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਧਾਰੈ ॥
gur kaa sabad rid a(n)tar dhaarai ||
Those who implant the Word of the Guru's Shabad within their hearts
ਪੰਚ ਜਨਾ ਸਿਉ ਸੰਗੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ॥
pa(n)ch janaa siu sa(n)g nivaarai ||
cut their connections with the five passions.
ਦਸ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਵਾਸਿ ॥
das i(n)dree kar raakhai vaas ||
They keep the ten organs under their control;
ਤਾ ਕੈ ਆਤਮੈ ਹੋਇ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥੧॥
taa kai aatamai hoi paragaas ||1||
their souls are enlightened. ||1||
ਐਸੀ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਤਾ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਹੋਇ ॥
aisee driRataa taa kai hoi ||
They alone acquire such stability,
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਦਇਆ ਮਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jaa kau daiaa maiaa prabh soi ||1|| rahaau ||
whom God blesses with His Mercy and Grace. ||1||Pause||
ਸਾਜਨੁ ਦੁਸਟੁ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਏਕ ਸਮਾਨੈ ॥
saajan dusat jaa kai ek samaanai ||
Friend and foe are one and the same to them.
ਜੇਤਾ ਬੋਲਣੁ ਤੇਤਾ ਗਿਆਨੈ ॥
jetaa bolan tetaa giaanai ||
Whatever they speak is wisdom.
ਜੇਤਾ ਸੁਨਣਾ ਤੇਤਾ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
jetaa sunanaa tetaa naam ||
Whatever they hear is the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਜੇਤਾ ਪੇਖਨੁ ਤੇਤਾ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥੨॥
jetaa pekhan tetaa dhiaan ||2||
Whatever they see is meditation. ||2||
ਸਹਜੇ ਜਾਗਣੁ ਸਹਜੇ ਸੋਇ ॥
sahaje jaagan sahaje soi ||
They awaken in peace and poise; they sleep in peace and poise.
ਸਹਜੇ ਹੋਤਾ ਜਾਇ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
sahaje hotaa jaai s hoi ||
That which is meant to be, automatically happens.
ਸਹਜਿ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਹਸਨਾ ॥
sahaj bairaag sahaje hee hasanaa ||
In peace and poise, they remain detached; in peace and poise, they laugh.
ਸਹਜੇ ਚੂਪ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਜਪਨਾ ॥੩॥
sahaje choop sahaje hee japanaa ||3||
In peace and poise, they remain silent; in peace and poise, they chant. ||3||
ਸਹਜੇ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਸਹਜੇ ਭਾਉ ॥
sahaje bhojan sahaje bhaau ||
In peace and poise they eat; in peace and poise they love.
ਸਹਜੇ ਮਿਟਿਓ ਸਗਲ ਦੁਰਾਉ ॥
sahaje mitio sagal duraau ||
The illusion of duality is easily and totally removed.
ਸਹਜੇ ਹੋਆ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
sahaje hoaa saadhoo sa(n)g ||
They naturally join the Saadh Sangat, the Society of the Holy.
ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਨਿਸੰਗੁ ॥੪॥
sahaj milio paarabraham nisa(n)g ||4||
In peace and poise, they meet and merge with the Supreme Lord God. ||4||
ਸਹਜੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮਹਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਉਦਾਸੀ ॥
sahaje grih mahi sahaj udaasee ||
They are at peace in their homes, and they are at peace while detached.
