ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਹਾਰਿਓ ਅਨਿਕ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤੀ ਛੋਡਹਿ ਕਤਹੂੰ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
kar kar haario anik bahu bhaatee chhodahi katahoo(n) naahee ||
Trying all sorts of things, I have grown weary, but still, they will not leave me alone.
ਏਕ ਬਾਤ ਸੁਨਿ ਤਾਕੀ ਓਟਾ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਟਿ ਜਾਹੀ ॥੨॥
ek baat sun taakee otaa saadhasa(n)g mit jaahee ||2||
But I have heard that they can be rooted out, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; and so I seek their Shelter. ||2||
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸੰਤ ਮਿਲੇ ਮੋਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਤੇ ਧੀਰਜੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
kar kirapaa sa(n)t mile mohi tin te dheeraj paaiaa ||
In their Mercy, the Saints have met me, and from them, I have obtained satisfaction.
ਸੰਤੀ ਮੰਤੁ ਦੀਓ ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
sa(n)tee ma(n)t deeo mohi nirabhau gur kaa sabad kamaaiaa ||3||
The Saints have given me the Mantra of the Fearless Lord, and now I practice the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||3||
ਜੀਤਿ ਲਏ ਓਇ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖਾਦੀ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਹੇਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
jeet lae oi mahaa bikhaadee sahaj suhelee baanee ||
I have now conquered those terrible evil-doers, and my speech is now sweet and sublime.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਭਇਆ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਪਦੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੨੫॥
kahu naanak man bhaiaa paragaasaa paaiaa pad nirabaanee ||4||4||125||
Says Nanak, the Divine Light has dawned within my mind; I have obtained the state of Nirvaanaa. ||4||4||125||

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:
ਓਹੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਰਾਇਆ ॥
ohu abinaasee raaiaa ||
He is the Eternal King.
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੈ ਬਸਤੇ ਇਹੁ ਡਰਨੁ ਕਹਾ ਤੇ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
nirabhau sa(n)g tumaarai basate ihu daran kahaa te aaiaa ||1|| rahaau ||
The Fearless Lord abides with you. So where does this fear come from? ||1||Pause||
ਏਕ ਮਹਲਿ ਤੂੰ ਹੋਹਿ ਅਫਾਰੋ ਏਕ ਮਹਲਿ ਨਿਮਾਨੋ ॥
ek mahal too(n) hohi aphaaro ek mahal nimaano ||
In one person, You are arrogant and proud, and in another, You are meek and humble.
ਏਕ ਮਹਲਿ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਏਕ ਮਹਲਿ ਗਰੀਬਾਨੋ ॥੧॥
ek mahal too(n) aape aape ek mahal gareebaano ||1||
In one person, You are all by Yourself, and in another, You are poor. ||1||
ਏਕ ਮਹਲਿ ਤੂੰ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਬਕਤਾ ਏਕ ਮਹਲਿ ਖਲੁ ਹੋਤਾ ॥
ek mahal too(n) pa(n)dit bakataa ek mahal khal hotaa ||
In one person, you are a Pandit, a religious scholar and a preacher, and in another, You are just a fool.
ਏਕ ਮਹਲਿ ਤੂੰ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਗ੍ਰਾਹਜੁ ਏਕ ਮਹਲਿ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਲੇਤਾ ॥੨॥
ek mahal too(n) sabh kichh graahaj ek mahal kachhoo na letaa ||2||
In one person, You grab hold of everything, and in another, You accept nothing. ||2||
ਕਾਠ ਕੀ ਪੁਤਰੀ ਕਹਾ ਕਰੈ ਬਪੁਰੀ ਖਿਲਾਵਨਹਾਰੋ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
kaath kee putaree kahaa karai bapuree khilaavanahaaro jaanai ||
What can the poor wooden puppet do? The Master Puppeteer knows everything.
ਜੈਸਾ ਭੇਖੁ ਕਰਾਵੈ ਬਾਜੀਗਰੁ ਓਹੁ ਤੈਸੋ ਹੀ ਸਾਜੁ ਆਨੈ ॥੩॥
jaisaa bhekh karaavai baajeegar ohu taiso hee saaj aanai ||3||
As the Puppeteer dresses the puppet, so is the role the puppet plays. ||3||
ਅਨਿਕ ਕੋਠਰੀ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਭਾਤਿ ਕਰੀਆ ਆਪਿ ਹੋਆ ਰਖਵਾਰਾ ॥
anik kotharee bahut bhaat kareeaa aap hoaa rakhavaaraa ||
The Lord has created the various chambers of assorted descriptions, and He Himself protects them.
ਜੈਸੇ ਮਹਲਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਤੈਸੈ ਰਹਨਾ ਕਿਆ ਇਹੁ ਕਰੈ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥੪॥
jaise mahal raakhai taisai rahanaa kiaa ihu karai bichaaraa ||4||
As is that vessel in which the Lord places the soul, so does it dwell. What can this poor being do? ||4||
ਜਿਨਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਆ ਸੋਈ ਜਾਨੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਸਾਜੀ ॥
jin kichh keeaa soee jaanai jin ih sabh bidh saajee ||
The One who created the thing, understands it; He has fashioned all of this.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਾਜੀ ॥੫॥੫॥੧੨੬॥
kahu naanak apara(n)par suaamee keemat apune kaajee ||5||5||126||
Says Nanak, the Lord and Master is Infinite; He alone understands the value of His Creation. ||5||5||126||

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:
ਛੋਡਿ ਛੋਡਿ ਰੇ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਕੇ ਰਸੂਆ ॥
chhod chhod re bikhiaa ke rasooaa ||
Give them up - give up the pleasures of corruption;
ਉਰਝਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਰੇ ਬਾਵਰ ਗਾਵਰ ਜਿਉ ਕਿਰਖੈ ਹਰਿਆਇਓ ਪਸੂਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
urajh rahio re baavar gaavar jiu kirakhai hariaaio pasooaa ||1|| rahaau ||
you are entangled in them, you crazy fool, like an animal grazing in the green fields. ||1||Pause||
ਜੋ ਜਾਨਹਿ ਤੂੰ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਾਜੈ ਸੋ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਚਾਲੈ ਤੇਰੈ ਤਸੂਆ ॥
jo jaanahi too(n) apune kaajai so sa(n)g na chaalai terai tasooaa ||
That which you believe to be of use to you, shall not go even an inch with you.
ਨਾਗੋ ਆਇਓ ਨਾਗ ਸਿਧਾਸੀ ਫੇਰਿ ਫਿਰਿਓ ਅਰੁ ਕਾਲਿ ਗਰਸੂਆ ॥੧॥
naago aaio naag sidhaasee pher phirio ar kaal garasooaa ||1||
Naked you came, and naked you shall depart. You shall go round and round the cycle of birth and death, and you shall be food for Death. ||1||
ਪੇਖਿ ਪੇਖਿ ਰੇ ਕਸੁੰਭ ਕੀ ਲੀਲਾ ਰਾਚਿ ਮਾਚਿ ਤਿਨਹੂੰ ਲਉ ਹਸੂਆ ॥
pekh pekh re kasu(n)bh kee leelaa raach maach tinahoo(n) lau hasooaa ||
Watching, watching the transitory dramas of the world, you are embroiled and enmeshed in them, and you laugh with delight.
ਛੀਜਤ ਡੋਰਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਅਰੁ ਰੈਨੀ ਜੀਅ ਕੋ ਕਾਜੁ ਨ ਕੀਨੋ ਕਛੂਆ ॥੨॥
chheejat dor dinas ar rainee jee ko kaaj na keeno kachhooaa ||2||
The string of life is wearing thin, day and night, and you have done nothing for your soul. ||2||
ਕਰਤ ਕਰਤ ਇਵ ਹੀ ਬਿਰਧਾਨੋ ਹਾਰਿਓ ਉਕਤੇ ਤਨੁ ਖੀਨਸੂਆ ॥
karat karat iv hee biradhaano haario ukate tan kheenasooaa ||
Doing your deeds, you have grown old; your voice fails you, and your body has become weak.
ਜਿਉ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਉਨਿ ਮੋਹਨੀ ਬਾਲਾ ਉਸ ਤੇ ਘਟੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਰੁਚ ਚਸੂਆ ॥੩॥
jiu mohio un mohanee baalaa us te ghatai naahee ruch chasooaa ||3||
You were enticed by Maya in your youth, and your attachment for it has not diminished, one little bit. ||3||
ਜਗੁ ਐਸਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਗੁਰਹਿ ਦਿਖਾਇਓ ਤਉ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਤਜਿ ਗਰਬਸੂਆ ॥
jag aisaa mohi gurahi dikhaaio tau saran pario taj garabasooaa ||
The Guru has shown me that this is the way of the world; I have abandoned the dwelling of pride, and entered Your Sanctuary.
ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੋ ਸੰਤਿ ਬਤਾਇਓ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਭਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੂਆ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੨੭॥
maarag prabh ko sa(n)t bataaio driRee naanak daas bhagat har jasooaa ||4||6||127||
The Saint has shown me the Path of God; slave Nanak has implanted devotional worship and the Praise of the Lord. ||4||6||127||

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:
ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਵਨੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥
tujh bin kavan hamaaraa ||
Except for You, who is mine?
ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mere preetam praan adhaaraa ||1|| rahaau ||
O my Beloved, You are the Support of the breath of life. ||1||Pause||
ਅੰਤਰ ਕੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਜਾਨੀ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਸਜਨ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ॥
a(n)tar kee bidh tum hee jaanee tum hee sajan suhele ||
You alone know the condition of my inner being. You are my Beautiful Friend.
ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਮੈ ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਪਾਏ ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਅਗਹ ਅਤੋਲੇ ॥੧॥
sarab sukhaa mai tujh te paae mere thaakur agah atole ||1||
I receive all comforts from You, O my Unfathomable and Immeasurable Lord and Master. ||1||
